The Zoma are the featured race of the Zomaris setting, setting the Zomaris setting apart from other fantasy settings. "Zomaris" is in part named for them, and they are generally considered to be the most powerful and respected of all races on Zomaris.
As Drow are the dark reflection of elves, Zoma are the light. They tend to build extravagant, gleaming cities that are the envy of all Zomaris. Zoma are self-absorbed, believing themselves the perfect paragons of virtue. A zoma who fails to abide by their society’s laws and cultural norms may find themselves quietly ignored. As with drow, there are stories that say some elves could become zoma, but such a transformation would require practical sainthood.
Zoma are similar in stature to humans, but have the long, pointed ears as do elves and drow. Zoma skin tone ranges among various shades of green and blue. They usually have jet black hair, though occasionally one with a deep gold can be seen.
Zoma society is class-oriented and matriarchial. Female zoma often serve in leadership roles, and as with drow, 1 in 20 have exceptional abilities (almost always female). These zoma are the leaders of the Great Houses, which are vast enterprises spanning the continent, as well as providing direct rule over the Lirizian Federation, the one true Zoma-run nation on Zomaris. Noblewomen zoma are generally considered to be some of the most beautiful beings on the planet, and it is easy for them to gain a following. Male zoma typically desire to serve nobles as their protectors, both in martial and arcane roles; their status is often determined by a mix of the importance of the noble they serve and their importance to that noble. A common female zoma is still part of her own family with a similar structure, but generally have to perform noteworthy deeds to gain status.
Zoma see themselves as the ultimate paragons of virtue. Indeed, most are lawful good, often taken to the levels associated with paladins. Species such as orcs and goblins are treated extremely harshly and are generally unwelcome in zoma society. Drow are almost always attacked on sight, (and drow will almost always attack a lone zoma on sight with intent to kill), as they are considered to be the ultimate in sentient evil. Though distrusted by dwarves, as are all elves, zoma hold no ill will to them and are often sympathetic. Humans are treated on their own individual merit, and it is not uncommon for humans and high elves to be servants to zoma. The Animalia are respected but generally kept at a distance. Some Animalia resent that the Zoma have done little to stop the injustices inflicted upon their collective species in many civilized parts of Zomaris.
Zoma seek to bring their light to the rest of the world, if they can do so without causing too much pain. Spellcasters of many types are extremely common in both genders, though females will take the paladin and cleric roles common to leadership more often than males. Males tend more for martial positions, and non-noble females tend for stealth positions, if they are not a full caster. Nature-oriented roles such as druids and rangers are rare, as zoma insist on considering themselves civilized. Noblewomen Zoma generally only enter a territory assured of their safety, and do not lower themselves to adventuring in the muck.
Zoma use a naming system identical to modern humans, though noblewomen Zoma will likely have several first names.
This section reflects the common Zoma. The "noblewoman" Zoma will not get its own stat block until it is necessary. DMs using Zomaris are discouraged from allowing Noble Zoma characters, similarly to the general unease towards allowing Noble Drow, for balance purposes. The common Zoma is 14 RP, same with the common Drow.
Ability Scores: Zoma get +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, and -2 Constitution
Type: Zoma are humanoids with the elf subtype
Size: Zoma are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Zoma have a base speed of 30 feet.
Language: Zoma begin speaking Elven and Celestial. Similar to the Drow, Zoma also have their own sign language they can learn with a high Intelligence score. Additionally, many Houses or smaller units of Zoma society will modify the sign language for their own internal code. Other languages a Zoma can learn with a high Intelligence score are Auran, Common, Draconic, Dwarven, Gnome, Halfling, and Sylvan.
Defensive Racial Traits
Immunities: Zoma are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects. Spell Resistance: Zoma possess spell resistance equal to 6 plus their number of class levels.
Offensive Racial Traits
Weapon Familiarity: Zoma are always proficient in the shortsword, longsword, shortbow, and longbow.
Feat and Skill Racial Traits
Keen Senses: Zoma get a +2 bonus on Perception checks.
Magical Racial Traits
Spell-Like Abilities: Zoma can cast Dancing Lights, Mending, and Unseen Servant as a spell-like ability, once per day each, using their total character level as their caster level. (Important Note: Unlike Drow and base Elves, Zoma do not naturally get any form of low-light vision or darkvision. Their vision is equivalent to humans.)
