Trinsic Tales:Ships Ahoy!/Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen: Take It To The Brig
<Capn_Ascii> As we join our heroes, we find them hiding behind a stack of crates in an underground dock area, watching as Liquid ascends the elevator and...oh, wait. Sorry, wrong game.
Marilyn backs up and heads towards the west corridor. "Let's let the prisoners fight their way out. Hopefully we can find an armory of some kind to help them out. But there's no point getting killed by attrition out here."
Marilyn waves at her party to get them to follow
Vathgani tags along.
<Capn_Ascii> You fall back along the catwalk, and proceed through the western doorway.
Marilyn arms herself, ready to fight
<Capn_Ascii> As you head down the hallway, you notice a number of closed doors leading off into what you assume to be side rooms.
<Capn_Ascii> Most of them are unlabeled, although you do pass one that says "Infirmary".
<Capn_Ascii> Just as you're nearing a north-ward turn in the corridor, you hear voices approaching!
Marilyn quickly pulls out her wand and goes Quadruple Invis, shoving herself against the wall before her invis triggers, so her party members get the hint.
Vathgani attempts to be as not-huge as he can
<Capn_Ascii> The four of you flatten against the walls as you disappear from existence. Well, visible existence, at least.
<Capn_Ascii> The voices get louder...after a few moments, a trio of robed guys come walking through the corridor, talking to each other.
<Capn_Ascii> "So did you catch the game last night?"
<Capn_Ascii> "Nah, my girl dragged me off to the opera. I had to Tivo it."
<Capn_Ascii> "Pfft. Whipped."
<Capn_Ascii> "Ah, you're just upset 'cause you got shot down by Susan in accounting."
<Capn_Ascii> "Hey, screw you, man...!"
<Capn_Ascii> They walk around the corner and through the Infirmary door, which closes behind them.
Marilyn knocks on the wall to let her party know she's proceeding, then does so.
Vathgani tags along invisibly
<Capn_Ascii> You continue down the path, and soon find yourself entering into a larger, open room. It looks like some sort of guard monitoring station...there are two robed guys watching more of those crystal monitor thingies, except these are showing images of dozens of people locked in small cells.
Marilyn looks around for doors, or anyplace that might indicate where these cells actually are
<Capn_Ascii> There's corridors leading off to the north and east, as well as a large security door in the west wall.
Marilyn checks the map to see where the corridors go
<Capn_Ascii> According to the map, the eastern hallway leads off to the command center, and the north one goes...somewhere? That part of the map has a big "RESTRICTED" mark across it, concealing the layout beyond that point.
Marilyn nods sagely to herself.
<Capn_Ascii> The map also says that the prison cells are through the western security door.
Marilyn prepares to attack the nearest guard
<Capn_Ascii> The guard has his back turned to you, intently watching the prisoners on the monitor...hey, wait a minute! That's not the cells, it's some sort of game show!
Marilyn blinks, and checks the other monitor
<Capn_Ascii> The other one is showing the cells, but neither of the goons is paying it any attention. The first one seems intent on watching people spin an oversized slot wheel, while the other is kicked up in his chair reading a magazine. Neither of them seems to be paying any attention to much of anything else.
Marilyn launches herself into a full attack at the first guard! "Come on down! You're the next contestant on Death By Princess!"
<Capn_Ascii> The guard barely has time to bid on the actual price of the dinet set before his life is abruptly ended, his carcas falling into bloody shreds on the floor, his extremeties still twitching from the current. He died as he lived - watching mindless daytime television.
Ashling hurridly casts hold person on the other guard.
<Capn_Ascii> "Hey, what the phu--!" The other guard begins to snap up out of his chair, but suddenly stops. "Aaaarrrrgh...!" He begins to twist and contort painfully as his joints lock and his muscles sieze up.
<Capn_Ascii> He ends up hunched in his chair, unable to move.
Vathgani takes the opportunity to give him a bear hug and drag him away from the chair and the alarm
Marilyn pulls out her rope and works on tying him up
<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn whirls the rope around the frozen fellow, then proceeds to tie a very complicated-looking knot in the rope. She finishes, and stands back, grinning proudly...at which point the knot *pops* loose and the rope falls away.
Marilyn facepalms. "Ashling, you try it."
Ashling sighs and tries it herself.
<Capn_Ascii> Ash studies the rope and the goon, cracks her knuckles, then leaps onto the guy and begins kicking up a cloud of dust. When it clears, he's completely encased in rope like a cocoon, and hanging upside-down from the ceiling by his ankles.
Marilyn inclines her head in gratitude. "Well done, citizen. Now..." she turns her attention to the guard and searches him for a key of some sort
<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: Reaching into the ropes, you fumble around a bit and come up with...a small, laminated card.
Marilyn smiles and walks over to the door, looking for a place to swipe it.
<Capn_Ascii> The door is huge - made from solid steel, with reinforced seams and a wheel-shaped handle, presumably to air-seal the door in case of a flood from the dock area. There's a single, small slot in the door beneath the handle...you insert the card, and the door locks click open.
Marilyn opens the door and looks around
<Capn_Ascii> You get the others to assist you in turning the huge handle and dragging the door open. On the other side is a *very* long hallway...it seems to stretch off the length of a football field. Lining both sides of the hall are a dozen barred prison cells, each full to bursting with people.
<Capn_Ascii> Most of them are busy talking to each other and pay you no mind. However one woman in the closest cell notices you. "Oi! Who the hell are you? You're not the guards..."
Marilyn smiles widely. "I believe we're the jailbreak. At least, that's the plan." Marilyn looks to see how to open the cell.
<Capn_Ascii> It has the same slot on it that the main door did. "Really? Thank god! My crew and I have been stuck here for weeks!"
Marilyn swipes the card.
<Marilyn> "I'm planning on taking this place down. I'll show you all how to get to the docks, and the controls to open the gates so you can get out... you'll have a fight, but you can do it. Plus, we'll keep Command busy."
<Capn_Ascii> "Wonderful! There's an armory at the end of the hall. We'll arm ourselves and take back our ships."
<Capn_Ascii> The crowd behind her start getting riled up at the thought of perpetrating acts of violence against their captors.
<Marilyn> "Ashling, see if the other guard also has a key, let's make this go faster," Marilyn calls out, swiping the card on the next cell, and continuing down the line
<Capn_Ascii> With a little help from Ashling, you go down the line and open all of the cells. Soon, there's a swelling throng of people around you barging down to the armory, and then storming back out, armed with swords, crossbows, torches, and pitchforks. They start yelling and calling for blood as they stream out through the prison entrance.
<Marilyn> "South exit is the one to the docks," Marilyn indicates the correct path.
<Capn_Ascii> The angry mob says "Thanks!" as it exits.
<Marilyn> "Alright, now... Vathgani, let's throw our guard here into a cell."
<Vathgani> "Vathgani approves of ironic justice."
Marilyn grabs the guard and begins working her way to the cells. "After all, I don't want to leave him tied up. I like this rope."
Vathgani helps with hauling the guard along
<Marilyn> After getting the guard into the cell, Marilyn undoes the rope, steps out of the cell, and promptly locks it.
<Capn_Ascii> "Hey! HEY!" The guard pounds on the bars as you leave him. "Aww, dammit! And I was about to retire, too!"
<Capn_Ascii> He immediately pulls out a harmonica and begins to play it mournfuly.
Marilyn steps back into the main room, waits for her group to follow her, then reseals the security door.
<Marilyn> "Okay, so here are the options. We either check out this restricted area here," she indicates the map "or, we just go for command."
Marilyn contemplates, then makes her decision. "If an enemy doesn't want us somewhere, it seems worth a look."
Marilyn makes her way towards the RESTRICTED areas.
<Capn_Ascii> You head north, through the restricted access hallway. You've barely taken more than a half-dozen steps inside when...
<Capn_Ascii> "ALERT! ALERT! Attention all hands! The prisoners have escaped! I repeat, the prisoners have escaped!"
<Capn_Ascii> "Emergency riot control! All available hands to the docks!"
Marilyn walks faster
Vathgani tags along faster
<Capn_Ascii> "Activating emergency lockdown!" There's a rumble in the ceiling above and behind you...you have just enough time to turn around to see a large, heavy steel plate dropping down into place behind you, sealing off the corridor you just came from. Oops.
Marilyn facepalms. "Ah well, we can Teleport back into that overhead room we started in, right?"
<Capn_Ascii> With nowhere else to go, you keep following the hallway, which begins to curve to the east. Soon you hear voices...a lot of them. There's a big crowd of robed guys up ahead, standing in the middle of a four-way intersection. They're all talking excitedly and arming themselves with weapons. Fortunately, they don't seem to have seen you yet.
<Capn_Ascii> There's a door in the left wall here marked "Storage" and another one in the right-hand wall labeled "Lounge".
Marilyn goes the Quad Invis route again
<Capn_Ascii> You're invisible again. But, the crowd is still standing there, blocking your way.
Marilyn watches them, trying to see what they're going to do
<Capn_Ascii> After a while a voice rings out. "Okay, guys! Half of you go to the docks and help the others! The rest of you, stay here and guard the boss!"
<Capn_Ascii> Half of the crowd jogs off down the southern fork, towards the command center. The rest take up positions in a line across the mouth of the northern fork, standing there and...uh, looking stern.
<Capn_Ascii> The noise dies down, and all is quiet. More or less. The remaining guards idly chatter amongst themselves.
<Capn_Ascii> ---END SESSION---
