Chapter Two: Cheaper by the Dozen

<Capn_Ascii> "As we join our heroes, we find them searching for the missing Marilyn! ...oh, wait, there she is. Wow, that was easy."

<Marilyn> "About time someone showed up," Marilyn glares at the Party. "Seriously, what took you all so long?"

<JuroBoza> "Well, excuse me, Princess!" Boza says

<Marilyn> "How about 'no'?"

<Ember> Ariel quickly flies and hides behind Ember.

<Rodrigo> Rodrigo glares right back. "I came as soon as I could. And you know it."

<JuroBoza> "What is more important is that everyone is unharmed. Let's go," Juro says.

<Marilyn> Marilyn turns away to look at the wall, crossing her arms. "Hmmph."

<Ember> "Excuse me your highness, we're here to escort you back to the castle,"

<Marilyn> "Escort me back to the castle? I think not. I didn't come all this way to return empty handed. No, you get me out of here, then we press on," Marilyn indicates the cell door, and beyond.

<Ember> "Our orders were to bring you back to the castle, unharmed of possible. And I intend to see that done."

<Marilyn> Marilyn draws herself up to full height and gives Ember her iciest glare. "I am Her Royal Highness Marilyn Kiradan, Crown Princess of Belcadar. I am, therefore, the most powerful individual on the scene -- as I *always* am outside of the presence of my mother. As such, I am in command of this Party, effective immediately, and we are going on. Is that clear?"

Ember sighs. "I suppose. then you're going to have to answer to the Count why we didn't do the job as given to us, and see that we get paid the full amount promised us upon completion. Are we agreed?"

<Marilyn> "Of course you will still be compensated. And I do not report to my father."

Ember nods.

<Marilyn> Marilyn softens a bit. "Plus, we will go back to Castle Kiradan. Just... later."

Ember nods again. "Well, let's continue on then."

<Ember> "How did you get here?"

<Marilyn> "A ragtag unworthy group of bandits who's time on Kevlo may be quite limited had the unmitigated gall to lay hands upon Myself and place Me in these deplorable forced accomodations."

<Desoria> "If Ms High and Mighty there can stoop herself so, I would have good reason to aid you in dealing justice to the foul beings that captured us." Uncurling from her huddled position in the corner of her cell, Desoria straightened up and spread her wings, briefly, the ends brushing each side of the cell before she tucked them back behind her.

<Marilyn> Marilyn looks back at the winged elf. "Hmmm, alright. Get me out first, then this one." Marilyn commands.

Ember gestures to the open hole in the wall behind her. "Done. you're free. Unless you can pick that lock." She gestures to the door.

<Marilyn> Marilyn rolls her eyes. "My equipment is on the other side. So we need to open this door. And they took my lockpicking gear, or I would be out by now."

<Rodrigo> "Guess we just break it down," Rodrigo comments, pulling out his axe.

<Desoria> Desoria waves her hand at Marilyn's door. ((Knock))

<Desoria> "My sleep has restored me. I would rather not waste my energies, though, so if you can pick the lock to this door, please do."

<Capn_Ascii> Desoria: You wave your hand, but nothing happens.

<Marilyn> "I can certainly pick your door once I have access to my gear. This door, no. Either someone else needs to pick it... or Rodrigo can just break it down, I suppose."

<Rodrigo> Rodrigo slams his axe into the cell door.

<Capn_Ascii> Rodrigo: You haul back, and give a mighty swing...!

<Capn_Ascii> *CRASH!!!*

<Capn_Ascii> And I do mean 'mighty'! The blow lands with such force, the cell door is quite literally blown off its hinges! It flies across the room and slams into the metal cabinet on the other side of the room.

<Capn_Ascii> The twisted remains of the door topple away as the cabinet pops open, all of Marilyn's and Desoria's belongings tumbling out onto the floor.

<Marilyn> Marilyn starts carefully placing all her belongings in appropriate places, then looks around for a space to change in private

<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: The closest thing you've got is the secret corridor the others came out of.

<Marilyn> Marilyn grimaces and starts heading up the secret corridor to change. "If anyone dares follow me to look, my blade will be in their chest."

<Marilyn> Marilyn quickly switches into her normal armor with royal clan symbols and gets all her other gear onto her body.

<Capn_Ascii> *chunk* *swoosh* *ziiiip*

<Capn_Ascii> There. Properly clothed, shod, and outfitted.

<Marilyn> Marilyn returns, all kitted out, ready to go. "Alright, now let's see about this other cell here," Marilyn studies Desoria's cell door for the best way to open it.

<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: Looks like a simple cell door lock. Shouldn't be anything to tricky. Unless, of's trapped.

Marilyn carefully checks for traps

<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: The lock looks to be clean and trap-free.

<Marilyn> Marilyn carefully uses her tools to open the lock.

<Capn_Ascii> *click*

<Capn_Ascii> The door unlocks. Desoria is FREE!

<Capn_Ascii> ...well, she's no longer imprisoned, at least. She may or may not like the implication that she has little value.

Desoria gives Marilyn a perfuntory nod of gratitude as she sweeps out of the cell and reclaims her gear, stripping her prison clothes and donning her equipment immediately

<Marilyn> Marilyn then turns her attention to the door to the cell block itself, after checking the remaining cell to make sure it's as empty as it appears.

<Capn_Ascii> Desoria: You strip down (in plain view of everyone, no less) and re-equip yourself. Staring is up to the discretion of the individual party members.

<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: Yep, the end cell is empty. They had room for another guest, apparantly.

<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: The door seems to be A) untrapped, B) locked, and C) reinforced with heavy itron bands to prevent would-be gatecrashers.

<Marilyn> Marilyn tries to pick the lock,.

<Capn_Ascii> *ker-chack*

<Capn_Ascii> The lock opens!

Marilyn carefully raises her blades and leads the way out the door, searching for traps as she goes

Desoria makes sure everyone else files into the next room ahead of her before tagging along

<Capn_Ascii> Opening the door, you find yourselves looking down an S-shaped corridor that seems to weave back and forth, possibly to slow down intruders. You follow it for a distance, before finding a door on the southern wall.

Marilyn checks the door for traps and tries to open it

<Capn_Ascii> Marilyn: Nope, it's not trapped. In fact, it's not even locked! You open it.

<Capn_Ascii> The room beyond is rather stark-looking...nothing more than a simple cot, a toilet, and a couple of old wooden chairs. Looks like some sort of solitary-confinement cell.

Marilyn looks to see in anyone is inside.

<Marilyn> Preasumably, it's empty (or it would have been mentioned already), so she continues down the path.

<Capn_Ascii> Oh, look. Another door. And more corridors.

Marilyn tries the door, once again

<JuroBoza> "Hm, I wonder where the jailors are," Juro says

<Luna> "Sshh.. you'll jynx it."

<Capn_Ascii> The door is locked, but you can't see any traps, so... *click*

Marilyn looks inside

<Capn_Ascii> Slowly you hinge the door open. The inside of the room looks like it was a barracks of some sort - at least before everything got burned down. Where once were cots and shelves are just smoldering piles of ash. The reason for the destruction is obvious - there's a human-sized salamander in there, curled up on a pile of soot, asleep.

<Capn_Ascii> You glance around, and spot a second salamander. And a third. And...*counts on fingers*

<Capn_Ascii> Twelve! TWELVE salamanders! AH AH AH! *lightning crash*

<Capn_Ascii> The good news is, they're all asleep, snoring quite loudly. Looks like you've found the jailers...

<Marilyn> "Well well well. Swiftly, silently, and accurately, eliminate eleven of them, capture one."

<JuroBoza> "Boza is generally not one for silence," Juro mutters
