Chapter Thirteen: Supporting Your Local Library

<mainstreet> ---BEGIN GAME---

<mainstreet> Having recently been most deviously spied upon, our heroes find themselves needing to take fast action. Or slow action. Or... any kind of action really. Perhaps even inaction, though that itself is just a waiting action that also has consequences.

Ascii speaks up, after a nice, long think. "Okay, so. We're still waiting on Jasmine...but now the Prof. probably knows we're onto him. We need to tread carefully here."

<Ascii> "We should find some info on this Kilmath entity. Any place we can look into potential ancient dragons? Preferably one that's not within arm's reach of Gozano."

<Ashling> "There's a library I used to go to in region three. It's not very big, but they might have something."

<Ascii> "Well, that's...something.

<Ascii> "Let's go take a look. In the meantime, Ash, do you have any way to stop Gozano's elementals from spying on us?"

Ashling thinks for a second.

<Ashling> "We can have a telepathic discussion at any point.. Beyond that though..." she pulls out a small book and starts flipping through it.

<Ascii> "Hmm. Well, we may as well get a move on, then."

Ascii leads the way to the liberry., library.

Ashling continues flipping through the book, following.

Kanzel follows.

Brellius tags along.

<mainstreet> You find yourselves at the small city library. "CITY LIBRARY - OUTER BRANCH" is written in large blue letters on top of the building. It looks like a two-story house -- likely a repurposed building. Yeah, that is small.

Ascii heads inside.

Kanzel follows.

Ashling follows as well.

Brellius continues tagging along.

<mainstreet> You see a simple desk with an young elf lady sitting at the desk, looking bored out of her mind. She perks up when she sees you. "Welcome to the City Library, Outer Branch, you're my first visitors today, what can we do for you?" You notice that the building is, in fact, house-like -- you're in the main living room with the main desk and not much else, it looks like each other room of the house

<mainstreet> has been redone with subjects in mind. You see "FICTION" "HISTORY" and "COSMOLOGY" rooms visible from your point of view, there is also a hallway leading towards the back of the house.

<Ashling> "Hi. We have a school project about Dragons. Could you point us where that section is?"

<mainstreet> "Creatures room, down the hall, second room on your right."

Ashling nods "Thank you." and heads that way.

Ascii follows her into these hallowed halls of knowledge.

<mainstreet> You see the three previously mentioned rooms on your left, and on your right you pass "RELIGION" and enter the door marked "CREATURES"

Kanzel follows

<mainstreet> At this point, you see a typical set of library shelves at the end of the room. Three rows of shelf access at the far end. Immediately in front of you are a pair of round tables, seating for five each. A passage between them allows for access to the shelves.

Kanzel sits and looks around

Ascii begins poking around the shelves in search of anything useful. Or barring that, interesting.

Ashling does as well

Brellius joins in the searching of books

Brellius looks for any books obviously about dragons, or about anyone with a name ending in "th"

Ascii searches first for the obvious - anything specifically about Kilmath - though he somehow doubts that will turn up much. He's also looking for anything along the lines of "Particularly Important And/Or Famous Dragons, Particularly Evil Ones".

<mainstreet> Brellius: You grab the first book on unicorns you find and start reading, happily engrossed in the awesomeness that is UNICORNS.

<mainstreet> Ascii: You find a reasonable book: "Kevlan Dragons of the 7th and 8th Centuries"

Kanzel rolls her eyes when she sees Brellius's book and gets up to help look.

Kanzel looks for anything related to black dragons.

<Ascii> "Hmm." Ascii takes a look, it's in a book. Reading RAINBOW.

<mainstreet> Kanzel: You find a good book on the care and feeding of greyhounds. You start reading.

Ashling looks over at what her companions are reading and starts laughing.

Ashling also looks for anything related to black dragons.

<mainstreet> Ascii: The book is organized by region/continent, it appears: "LAZRYZORT" "MALADON" "FARALLON" "GEOMETRIC AND BLACKBEARD ARCHIPELAGOS" Subheadings are by each of the ten colors, though not all colors can be found in all regions.

Ascii reads through the listings of the Geometric areas, curious to see what sorts of dragons tend to be found thereabouts.

<mainstreet> Ashling: You find a book: "Black Dragons and their Evil Machinations in Modern Kevlo."

Ashling flips through it.

<mainstreet> Ascii: Six of the ten colors are present in the Archipelago, though no two on the same Island: Black, Blue, Green, Brass, Bronze, and Gold.

Ascii checks the listings for Five-Pointed Star Island.

<mainstreet> Ashling: You flip through it aimlessly. You learn a fair bit about black dragons and their plans and how they've been foiled. It also talks about their nature, strengths, and weaknesses. Perhaps a more specific search is in order?

Ashling goes back to the section about plans.

<mainstreet> Ascii: With regards to the FPSI, you see this: "No dragons have been permitted, historically, on Five-Pointed Star Island. However, it is suspected that envoys from all 6 colors known to the Archipelago have, at one point or another, attempted to claim parts of the Island for themselves. As long as the wards of the Island remain strong, however, the magical strength of the Island will keep its vast repositories of secrets and wealth out of the hands of the great flying beasts."

<mainstreet> Ashling: Hmmm, this seems to be discussing historic plans. Sadly, this book doesn't know anything in the last five years, being when it was printed. And it only knows of foiled plots -- for obvious reasons, current plots would not be discussed for publication.

<Ascii> "Hmmm. So the wards keep dragons away somehow?"

Ascii digs through the book to see if there's any information on specific dragons, such as ones named Kilmath.

Ashling skips to the weakneses section.

<mainstreet> Ascii: On inspiration, you flip to the back of the book: INDEX. You find Kilmath's name, and a page number! You go to that page, and... find a simple reference: "The Ellipse Island Black Dragon clan has stabilized in the past half-century, with Kilmath and his mate Lortath obtaining absolute control over their lesser kin."

Kanzel puts the book about greyhounds back and picks one up about pit bulls

<Ascii> "Okay, here's something. Says here that Kilmath is a black dragon, and he and his mate are the top bananas of the Ellipse Island black dragon clan. Which means...we're in a lot of trouble."

Ashling skims the list of involved dragons in the plans listed, looking for Kilmath

Kanzel, barely listening, mutters "I should get a dog."

Brellius mutters "I wish I could get a unicorn..."

<mainstreet> Ashling: You find Kilmath as being a minor player in an incident involving an Ellipse Island tribe a couple of centuries ago. It's one of the earliest references in the book.

Ashling reads that passage carefully looking for anything that might be of use so much time later.

<mainstreet> Ashling: PASSAGE READ.

Ascii sets the dragon book aside for now. "Okay, let's try something else." He steps back out into the hallways and starts looking for the history section. His goal - a book about FPSI itself. Specifically, something that can tell him about the nature of these magical wards, and exactly what it is they do and how they work.

<mainstreet> Ascii: You go into the HISTORY section. You find quite a few books on FPSI history, and flip through them, but only find vague references to the wards.

<Ascii> "Hmm."

Ascii then realizes he already has the perfect source of information on them.

Ascii shelves that idea for now (heh) and returns to the creatures section.

<Ascii> "Okay, guys, are you done yet? I think it's time we made a call, but I need Ash's help first."

Ashling walks over, still reading.

Kanzel puts the book on pit bulls back and follows

Brellius finishes memorizing the unicorn book and puts it back

<mainstreet> Brellius: You are now an expert on unicorns!

<mainstreet> ---END SESSION---
