Chapter Seven: The Great Jurassic Timeline Robbery

<mainstreet> ---BEGIN SESSION---

<mainstreet> Ascii: You find six lockers ringing the room, keeping things... locked. The room itself has lots of writing, all in that ancient-not-quite-Draconic you're getting familiar with.

<mainstreet> The middle of the room is empty; on the ground is what seems to be a simple floral pattern design.

Ascii hmms.

Ascii examines the writing.

<mainstreet> Ascii: It's writing. Hmmm. You probably need to get Ashling over here to read this. You've seen the language a lot recently, but that doesn't mean you can read it.

Ashling examines as well

<mainstreet> Ashling: One face of the wall talks about time travel, another talks about various paradoxes and how to avoid them, including the summary "eh, it’s millions of years, there probably won’t be any we need to worry about"... a third talks about the certainty of asteroid impact and how we're all going to die... a fourth face consists largely of complaints about how a Miracle was needed to open the "gateway" and the difficulties of accomplishing this

<mainstreet> Ashling: Also, you notice the phrase "ALL HAIL THE GREAT KERLIX!" repeated several times around the room.

Ashling repeats the important bits aloud. "I wonder who Kerlix is."

<Brellius> "I have a feeling we'll find out sooner or later."

<Brellius> "Ah, right! Kerlix was one of those really old deities who ruled in the, uh...this era."

<Ascii> "That's all you've got?"

<Brellius> "Well, the present is a long time ago. Sort of."

<Brellius> "There were a couple other names. Zoldros and Miralena, I think."

<Ascii> "Yes, well, that doesn't really help us right now, does it?"

Ascii looks around. "Kanzel, can you open these lockers? And make sure you check for traps first."

Kanzel picks at the locks, checking for traps.

<mainstreet> Kanzel: There are six lockers. Which locker are you opening?

<mainstreet> The lockers are all colored green, but in slightly different shading, from lightest (call it 1) to darkest (call it 6).

<mainstreet> Okay, okay, fine. First locker: no traps, and opens right up, revealing a series of tablets.

Kanzel gets to work on the second, expecting Ascii to rifle through the contents.

Ascii takes a peek!

<mainstreet> Ascii: Hmmm. They all have writing. The language is no surprise whatsoever. You note, however, that all 7 tablets present are identical.

Ashling peeks over his shoulder

<Ascii> "More of this crap. Ash, translate."

<mainstreet> Kanzel: Another no-issue opening, 4 more tablets revealed. Unlike the first tablet locker, though, these ones are all different.

Kanzel moves on

<mainstreet> Kanzel: You open the third locker. It has a single tablet, and a staff of petrified wood.

Kanzel keeps going! For science!

<mainstreet> Kanzel: You spot the Dragon Bile Covering, and try to scrape it off without getting any on you... crap, it got on you.

<mainstreet> You're getting weaker... weaker... you fall down, weakened severly by the poison

<mainstreet> Ashling: You look at the tablets, and realize... they're actually scrolls. Just... in tablet form, because apparently paper hasn't been invented. They're specifically what looks like Animate Dead scrolls, but... slightly off...

<mainstreet> Ashling: What that "off" might be is beyond you though. Actually, on second thought, nah, it's just Animate Dead.

Ashling keeps them and checks the "scrolls" in the second locker.

<mainstreet> Hmmm. Interesting content on these. They aren't magical scrolls, just tablets...

Ascii pokes Kanzel with his foot. "Uh, you okay down there?"

Kanzel comes back from picking the lock, her hands covered in blue goop. "Owowow.. Ascii, please do something about this."

<mainstreet> "Two Lileep, a Kabutops, and Lord Helix walk into a bar..."

<Ascii> "Sheesh. What happened to you?"

<mainstreet> "Why does this city have just a simplistic and crappy sewer system?"

<mainstreet> "What’s the difference between a Raptor and a Tyranno? At least we have hands we can USE! Mwahaha!"

<mainstreet> "Why can’t we get anything done in this place? Chief Goral Sucks, Magic Overseer Voro Rules!"

<Kanzel> "I screwed up on the lock. It's some kind of poison. I can't feel my arms. I think I can get the lock though."

Ashling moves on and inspects the contents of the next locker.

Kanzel tries the lock again

<Ascii> "Sounds like a weaking toxin. I can fix you, but try to finish here first in case there's any more of the stuff."

<mainstreet> Ashling: You look at the next tablet. "Yabba dabba doo, zabba zoo, you really suck, trying to steal this staff, and not knowing better. This tablet has twenty five words on it." BOOM!

<mainstreet> Ashling and Ascii take the full force, Brellius takes some force, and Kanzel manages to evade the blast of the Explosive Runes. Oops!

Ashling sighs and takes a second, restoring some health. "Well that was inconvinent."

Ascii blinks from his position on the nearby wall, where he's been flattened against it and covered in soot. "If by 'inconvenient' you mean 'painful'.

<Ascii> "Ow. OOOOWWWW."

<Brellius> "Oof! I'll be fine."

<Kanzel> "What? Whbat happened?"

<mainstreet> Kanzel: Damn that lock! It doesn't seem to want to open!

<Brellius> "A noisy, attention-attracting explosion."

Kanzel tries again

Ascii peels himself off the wall, and coughs. "Bleh. Are these walls sound-resistant?"

<mainstreet> Kanzel: Therrrrrrre we go... the lock opens... hey, it's 5 more tablets! 4 the same, and 1 that seems scratched out.

<mainstreet> Ascii: There are open doorways, obviously not.

Ashling checks them from a good four meters away.

Kanzel moves on to the next locker

Ascii takes a quick peek outside.

<mainstreet> Ashling: The first four tablets are... slightly altered in what can actually be summoned, it looks, but... basically Summon Monster V. The last one... you found the Miracle tablet!'s obviously been expended, though, and can't actually be used. "GRANTED BY THE GREAT KERLIX" is written.

Ashling stores them and goes back to check on that staff from the last locker

<mainstreet> Ashling: It looks like a Staff of... Transmutation.

<mainstreet> Kanzel: The lock opens... the locker is empty. The bottom has writing on it, though.

<mainstreet> Ascii: Hmmm... yep, it looks like you see a few people looking oddly at the origin of the explosion... they're looking around, and starting to uneasily look in your direction...

Ashling holds onto it and goes to check the newly-opened locker

Ascii pulls his head back. "Crap. We've been made. Hurry up and read what you need to read and grab what you need to grab, guys!"

<mainstreet> Ashling: The locker has two crude carvings: "ROMANS GO HOME" and "CHIEF GORAL STRONG. VORO STRONGER."

Kanzel turns invisible

Ashling does as well

Kanzel blasts open the last locker and looks inside.

<mainstreet> Jackpot! A goldmine of... well, not gold, but... a large quantity of rings is present. 17 rings, to be precise.

Kanzel scoops them into a sack and hurries back to the sewer entrance

<mainstreet> Ascii: You've been spotted... Raptors start to charge!

<Ascii> "Crap!"

<Ascii> "Quick! Everybody back into the sewers! Maybe they'll trip the trap if they try to come in here..."

Ascii quickly scampers back into the sewer pipe. "Hurry up!"

Ashling hurries to the sewer entrance as well

Brellius quickly tags along

Ashling directs her Unseen Servant to hold the vines up to make them look undisturbed.

<mainstreet> One of the raptors quickly accuses another... and a fight breaks out! A third, though, gazes perplexedly at the sewer grate.

<mainstreet> It takes a while, but manages to reach the correct conclusion, slashing the grate back open, and heading through it.

<mainstreet> You all have a pretty good head start, though.

Ascii spends what seems like an inordinately long time coming to a decision. "Okay, guys, it's officially time to get the hell out of here. We're falling back to the time-hole."

<Ashling> "Okay"

<Brellius> "Sounds good."

<Ascii> "Move as fast as you can, and be ready to run for it once we hit the outside. Also, does anyone have a way to plug the sewer line once we reach the exit?"

Ascii says all this as he scrambles along.

<mainstreet> You four make it outside the city... and it looks like a party of four raptors chasing you manages to catch up, as they burst outside mere seconds later, falling down the hill

<mainstreet> Unless you do something fast, you're going to have a battle on your hands.

<Ascii> "Okay, guys, quick. Gather 'round. I'm gonna TP us back to the portal."

<mainstreet> The velociraptors shout a challenge at you, preparing to strike!

<Ascii> "NOW, dammit!"

Ascii starts grabbing the wrists of the others without waiting for them to confirm.

Kanzel grabs ascii

Ashling does as well

Brellius holds on

<mainstreet> A raptor jumps up, aiming for your neck...!

<Ascii> "Abracagetusoutofhere!" *poof*

<mainstreet> Ascii: You find yourselves at the top of the path, the portal invitingly swirling at you, a mere twenty feet away!

<Ascii> "Thank goodness."

Ascii starts jogging back to it. "We need to go back and call the queen ASAP. You still got that mirror?"

Kanzel quickly follows "Yeah."

Ashling follows

Ascii hops back through the portal.

<mainstreet> The Party makes it back into the room in the Current Time! Whee~!

<Ascii> "Quick, gimme the mirror."

<mainstreet> The Portal still swirls at you, just waiting for Velociraptors to come racing through...

Kanzel hands it over

Ascii takes it. "Uh, how do you turn this thing on again?"

<Kanzel> "Don't remember."

<Ashling> "Let's go back into the warehouse. I want to seal this room."

Kanzel goes back into the warehouse.

Ascii leans over the mirror. "Um...Kelsey?"

<mainstreet> The mirror flickers for a few seconds, and her face appears. "Found something already?"

Ascii grins sheepishly. "You could say that."

<mainstreet> "I don't have all day. Report. Efficient and quick, please."

Ascii takes a deep breath. "Okay, turns out that Jack is actually the chief of a prehistoric tribe of dinosaurs who have used a Miracle spell in the name of their deity Kerlix to create a temporal vortex through which they've been infiltrating the city using a reanimated dead halfling agent under their control in preperation for a mass invasion of the island in a desperate attempt to escape an impending extiction event."

<mainstreet> Kelsey blinks. "Is this a joke? It had better not be."

<mainstreet> Kelsey blinks again. "Actually, I hope it is. I'll be pissed at you, but that... is not good."

Ascii shakes his head. "It's not a joke. There's a hole in...which warehouse was this again?" He glances at the others, hoping for an answer. " this warehouse that leads to their time period. We just came back from scouting their city, and now they're coming after us."

<mainstreet> "A hole? Portal of some sort... got an address for me?"

<Ascii> "Yeah." Ascii gives her the address of the warehouse.

<mainstreet> "I'll be there momentarily. Out," Kelsey replies, cutting the connection.

<mainstreet> You all stand around... half a minute later... *POOF* Kelsey appears along with a masked individual. "Where is it? In this vine...building... thing?"

<Ascii> "Whoa. That was fast. Uh, yeah, right in here."

<Ashling> "Check the desk."

<mainstreet> Kelsey walks into the room. She murmurs a few spells, then frowns. "Well... I suppose it's a good thing that I'm not planning on defending my title..." Kelsey starts chanting something *very* long and complicated... pauses... then starts up again... you notice the portal's diameter shrink... and shrink... and seal to zero! Kelsey grimaces, clearly drained heavily by that action. She sighs.

<mainstreet> "Well, that's a lot of experience gone."

<Ascii> "Huh? What just happened?"

<mainstreet> "That took two wishes to eradicate properly. I'm glad I knew what I was doing. If I hadn't done that right even that wouldn't have been enough."

<mainstreet> Kelsey looks into the desk, and spots the orb. "Eh, it's worthless orb now. Let's get out of here. I'm going to burn this structure down."

<Ascii> "Whoa, really? What the heck kind of portal was that, anyway?"

<Brellius> "Why burn this place down?"

Ashling heads outside.

Kanzel follows.

<mainstreet> "That was a high-yield temporal portal that was created with the direct intervention of a deity. Those things are nasty. I had to spend a wish removing the so-called 'blessing' of the deity, whichever it was, completely unfamiliar feel to it, so that I could take out the portal itself. We need to burn this place down so that the enemies cannot simply replace the portal."

<Kanzel> "Ascii, can you deal with this poison now?"

<mainstreet> With everyone outside, fire appears on Kelsey's hands... and she launches a pair of Fireballs into the structure. The structure begins to burn. "Now, I'm going to get out of here. Wait a minute, then leave the building. Call the fire department; I don't want to be associated with what just happened. Good work, but your work's not done. I'm guessing you investigated Jack first... there are

<mainstreet> three others, and this was not going to work on the wards directly, this was something else."

<Ascii> "We know. We'll keep going until we've dealt with the original problem."

<mainstreet> Kelsey nods, heading towards the side door you entered the building in.

<mainstreet> "Oh, and good luck this Needfest, Miss Ashling."

Ashling nods. "Thank you Miss Ravenwood."

Ascii looks around for a fire call box. "...huh? Oh, right." He also taps Kanzel, sending a pulse of healing energy through her body.

<Kanzel> "Thank you."

<Ascii> "No problem."

<mainstreet> Kanzel is restored to FULL STRENGTH!

<mainstreet> Ascii: You see a small pulldown lever in a corner of the warehouse. "FIRE ALARM"

<mainstreet> Kelsey finishes her walk out the door, and leaves the scene.

<Ascii> "Okay, ready? In!" He yanks the lever, then begins running as fast as he can away from the scene of the crime.

Ascii leads the others outside, then quickly disappears into the alleyways between the other warehouses before anyone happens along to see them.

<mainstreet> Ascii: After a few minutes of skulking around, you hear the sound of a bunch of wizards making haste for the warehouse. They start dumping massive amounts of water onto the building, putting out the fire before it can burn the building too badly.

<Ascii> "Okay, then." He strikes a meaningful pose. "One down...three to go."

<Brellius> "I have a bad feeling that we're gonna have to stop some insidious plot each time."

<Kanzel> "Crazy talk."

<Ascii> "You say that like it's a bad thing."

<Ashling> "Is it always like this?"

<Ascii> "Usually, yeah."

<mainstreet> ---END SESSION---
