Chapter Three: Running Around in Circles on Circle Island

<mainstreet> ---BEGIN SESSION---

<Kanzel> "Are you okay?"

Elysia stares at Kanzel in disbelief

<mainstreet> The boy doesn't appear to notice you, from this distance.

Sanni kneels in front of the child "Are you hurt?"

<mainstreet> The boy nods slowly.

<Sanni> "Can you show me where?"

Kanzel notices Elysia expression and looks at her "What?"

<Elysia> "I'm sorry, I'm not used to such ridiculous questions." Elysia gestures around her. "Look at this. Is anyone that's here still going to be okay?"

<mainstreet> "Everywhere"

Kanzel sighs and mutters "It's being okay physically versus crying over a lost loved one."

Sanni nods "Can you tell me what happened here? Why you're on this ship?"

Elysia shrugs. "Wouldn't know anything about the latter. The former, though. Do you want me to heal him, or..."

<mainstreet> "I came here. With... the elders, and such. Dad came, I came. Uh... I hurt badly. Can anyone help?"

Kanzel makes an 'after you' gesture to Elysia.

Sanni looks over her shoulder at Elysia, "Healing him would be appreciated."

Elysia uses the wand to heal the kid, faintly disgusted

<mainstreet> The kid's charring decreases ever so slightly. He shivers a bit but doesn't seem to be feeling any better.

Elysia stares at the wand, shaking it a little.

<mainstreet> The kid's charring decreases a lot. There's still some scars, but on the whole he looks much better now. "Uh, thanks guys."

Elysia mutters imprecations under her breath and puts her wand away

<mainstreet> "So... um... you said you wanted to hear about the fireball?"

<Kanzel> "Yeah. what did you see?"

<Sanni> "Is that what caused all this?"

<mainstreet> "There was this other ship, right... a small ship... it rammed us..." the kid points at one of the splintered deck walls. "A few humans came on the boat and started chopping things up. They went in the Captain's cabin... couldn't see in there... then they left quickly, before we could do anything...

<mainstreet> ...their leader, this lady that was sitting in the back of their boat... threw a Fireball at us when they left... that's most of the damage here," the kid notes.

Sanni nods, "That acounts for the damange to the ship and you. But you mentioned coming here with Elders and your dad. Where are they?"

<mainstreet> "Probably on the island. They're doing some big important thing with a bunch of other people. I don't know. I kinda hid... I don't think they realize I'm still here."

<Kanzel> "Did you happen to see anything specific about the ship? Distinguishing features?"

<mainstreet> "It was black... that's all I remember."

<Capn_Marcus> "We should take the kid to his dad when we leave. We can't leave him here by himself."

<Brellius> "The ship was all black?"

<Elysia> "I disagree."

<Kanzel> "Maybe point him in the right direction."

<mainstreet> "Yeah, the wood was painted black."

<Kanzel> "If we walk up to the hex tent, they'll assume we kidnapped him or something"

<Sanni> "Did you notice anything about the humans' clothing?"

<Brellius> "I wonder if they even painted the bottom of the ship..."

<mainstreet> "Um... looked like a Triangle military operation, actually... except the insignias were all gone... just the style of clothing..."

<Kanzel> "Hmm..."

<Sanni> "That helps, thank you. Is there anything else you remember about them, or their ship, that was different or stood out?"

<mainstreet> "Um... no."

<Elysia> "It was the only ship attacking?" Elysia mutters.

<mainstreet> "Yeah... Nobody was supposed to attack us..."

<Sanni> "Yeah, I doubt your dad would have brought you if he thought someone was going to attack. Do you remember how to get home from here?"

<mainstreet> "No."

<Capn_Marcus> "Come on, guys, let's just take him there ourselves. It would help our somewhat-tarnished-at-the-moment reputation if we did the kid a favor."

<Brellius> "Sounds like a good idea to me."

<Kanzel> "I just hope they don;t recognize us at all.."

Sanni nods, offering her hand to the child. "That's ok, I know the way to the big important thing on the island. If you're willing to come with me and my friends"

<mainstreet> "Um... OK."

<Elysia> "We could just leave him here."

Sanni stands and glares at Elysia "You can, I'm taking him back to the island. If y'all wish you can come with, or I can meet you somewhere after."

<Capn_Marcus> "Don't worry, I'll come with ya."

<Kanzel> "So will I."

<Kanzel> "It's not like it's very far out of our way."

<Brellius> "Same here."

Elysia sighs. "And I suppose if I don't come with you, you're all like as not to get killed or something spectacular."

<Kanzel> "Probably"

<Elysia> "Well. Lead on, fly boys."

Kanzel leads the way across the ship and down the gangplank

Sanni follows Kanzel, holding the child's hand. "Oh, by the way, I'm Sanni, what's your name?"

Elysia follows Kanzel

<mainstreet> "I'm Prel."

<mainstreet> The guard gives you a nod as you pass by. "And remember, if you need anything watched, the name's Kenny. Kenny Lowe."

Kanzel smiles. "Thanks Kenny." and walks down the dock.

Sanni nods to the guard, "I'll keep that in mind." following Kanzel down the dock.

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus eyes the guard suspiciously as he shuffles after the others.

Kanzel walks off the dock and looks around for the hexagon tent.

<Elysia> "My eyes are in my head, not my chest," Elysia says, following Kanzel

<mainstreet> You guys walk all the way to the Hexagon's camp and find a series of tents, similar to the ones set up by your own Government. A large Heaxgon is on one tent wall, revealing the owners' identity.

<Sanni> "Prel, do you know what tent your dad is likely to be in?"

<mainstreet> "Um... No."

<Sanni> "What's your dad's name then?"

<mainstreet> "Prel. Well... he's Prel the Fourth. I'm Prel the Fifth."

Sanni smiles, "Well that makes things slightly easier, and I bet it's easy for you to remember huh?"

<mainstreet> There is a guard standing outside each tent.

Kanzel walks up to a guard. "would it be possible to talk to Prel?"

<mainstreet> "Yeah, I guess."

<mainstreet> "Prel? Uh... three tents to the left, I think."

<Kanzel> "thank you."

Kanzel walks three tents, that-a-way.

Kanzel asks the guard there "Would it be possible to speak with Prel?"

<mainstreet> "Uh... three tents to the right, I think."

Kanzel stares.

<mainstreet> "Hey, do I look like information to you?"

Kanzel walks two tents in the indicated direction "Is Prel home?"

<mainstreet> "Uh... who's Prel?"

Kanzel goes back to the previous tent, two to the left "where IS information?"

<mainstreet> The guard wordlessly points at the tent across from his. There's an "INFORMATION" sign stuck in front of it.

Kanzel walks up to it. "Hi. I'm looking for Prel."

Sanni walks into the information tent with Kanzel.

<Brellius> "I have a bad feeling about today..."

Elysia hasn't moved from her place, looking around.

<mainstreet> "Prel? Oh, is that his kid there?" the woman at the desk declares. "Wait here, I'll go get him..." the woman says, walking out the back of the tent.

<Sanni> "Brellius, what with all the run around Kanzel's is getting?"

<Brellius> "I don't think the hassle's gonna stop here."

<Sanni> "That would make life easy, since when has life ever been easy?"

<mainstreet> A few minutes later, the woman comes back, an Elf dressed in a merchant's outfit behind her. "Is that my Prel?" he asks. "DADDY!" the kid declares, leaping at his dad.

Elysia waits for her comrades

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus feels a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. :)

Kanzel smiles.

Sanni smiles at Prel and his father, "We found him on a ship, and our cleric healed him as best she could"

<mainstreet> "Um... thanks for finding my child. We never did spot him again after the attack. Anything I can do to repay you?"

<Kanzel> "Yeah, we were wondering what happened to your ship. It looked pretty beat-up."

<mainstreet> "I'm afraid I was sleeping when it started. And I was belowdecks... apparently they left before I got abovedecks... lucky, as I could've easily gotten Fireballed."

<Kanzel> "Yeah, very lucky."

<mainstreet> "But seriously, do you need anything?"

<Brellius> "Can't think of anything I need at the moment."

<Kanzel> "No, we're just happy to see a son and father reuinited."

<Kanzel> "Do you know if anyone on your ship -did- see the attack?"

<Capn_Marcus> "Is there anyone else from the boat who might be able to tell us more?"

<Sanni> "It really wasn't that much trouble, and he looked so very lost."

<mainstreet> "Alright, well if you need anything, my tent's across the road, and one tent to the right. And I'm not sure... I'm just a merchant, not anyone important here."

<Kanzel> "Okay. Thank you."

<mainstreet> At this the woman cuts in, "Any inquires regarding any diplomatic matters should be directed to Ambassador Winter."

<Kanzel> "Ambassador Winter?"

<mainstreet> "Yes, the main Ambassador for Hexagon Island, Zach Winter, across the road, and three tents to the right."

<Kanzel> "Okay. Thank you. we'll talk to him if we need anything."

Kanzel waves to the Prels.

Kanzel goes off in the direction of Elysia

<Elysia> "Did we get anything useful?"

<Kanzel> "No. Prel the older, who is a merchant, was sleeping. We know the name of the Diplomat though."

<Capn_Marcus> "Diplomacy. Pfft."

<Elysia> "A Diplomat. Do you know how to talk to diplomats?"

<Brellius> "I'm not much for diplomacy. I prefer to hit things until they stop being problems."

<Brellius> "Unless they're nice, I guess."

Sanni joins Kanzel and Elysia. "Eh, it could be useful, should we need it. But diplomats are much more used as people who can talk in circles and get you so confused you agree"

Elysia sighs. "And course the answer is no. Stupid of me to ask."

<Kanzel> "Vaugely. I don't know when we'd need to tale to the diplomat, however."

<Elysia> "I should have realised you didn't, given you didn't even understand *me* earlier."

<Capn_Marcus> "We should go back to the ship and check around some more. The kid said they went for the captain's cabin; maybe we can find some clues there?"

<Kanzel> "Sounds good."

Kanzel heads off in the direction of the Hex boat

<Elysia> "That will give me more time to teach you how to handle this stuff, I suppose..." Elysia follows Kanzel

Sanni nods to Marcus, "Yeah, checking that would be a good idea" she says, following along behind Kanzel and Elysia.

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus follows behind the others, mostly because the view's better from back there.

<mainstreet> When you all arrive at the boat, the first thing you notice is the smell. It smells like dead human... even more so then before. You then realize three guards, in Hexagon uniform, not Circle as before, are standing in front of the boat. A certain Circle guard is apparently lying dead at their feet.

<Elysia> "Aw, shoot."

Sanni mutters under her breath "Damn"

<Elysia> "All in favour of a nonchalant stroll in the opposite direction?"

<Brellius> "Nay."

<Elysia> "All in favour of risking death, then?"

<Capn_Marcus> "Aw, hell, sure, why not?"

<Kanzel> "Oh my god, they killed kenny!"

<Elysia> "You bastards!"

Kanzel walks up to the hexagon guards "what happened here?"

<mainstreet> "This man was executed for accepting bribes to permit unpermitted access."

Elysia looks completely uninterested as usual, yawning

<Kanzel> "Huh. Well who said it was unpermitted?"

<mainstreet> "Access is not permitted."

<Kanzel> "No, I meant, who decreed that it was not permitted?"

<Brellius> "Executed for it? Harsh."

Elysia listens

<mainstreet> "That is not your concern, citizens. Move along."

<Sanni> "Well I don't know about bribes, but there was a small child in that ship, I bet that child's family is glad that child was found"

Elysia sighs and starts counting down our time to live

<mainstreet> "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about. I hope it's not about unpermitted access."

Kanzel sighs slightly "Well, I ask who deemed it unpermitted because..." Kanzel pulls out the letter Carmen gave her. "We did have permission."

<mainstreet> "Um... that access is not recognized. And please stop confusing your tenses, or I may think you've been on this ship unauthorized before."

<Kanzel> "Well, how else will we repay you for damages accrued to the boat without seeing the damage of the boat first-hand?"

<mainstreet> "What are you talking about?"

Elysia looks up. "By my calculations, the damage to that boat, from what I can see here... is worth 3 platinum."

<Kanzel> "We were sent here to assess the damage done to your boat by what was reported as 'A massive fireball that possibly killed several people'. If you don't want us on board, you might never get that platinum."

<mainstreet> "Not my problem."

<Elysia> "Let's go talk to Winters."

<Elysia> "He might want that platinum."

<Kanzel> "Yeah. Okay."

Kanzel looks back at the guards. "sorry to waste your time."

Kanzel heads back towards land

<Sanni> "They're going to have to replace the ship some how, might as well let us pay for it"

Elysia takes Kanzel's hand and walks off

Sanni walks behind Kanzel and Elysia, an eyebrow raised.

Kanzel walks back towards the Hex camp.

Brellius tags along

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus follows along, again in the back. Heh heh. ;)

Kanzel scans the information tent for Prel

<mainstreet> He's not there anymore. He's probably where he said he'd be.

Kanzel heads over to the tent Prel said he'd be in.

Sanni looks over her shoulder at Marcus "I sware you make it so you're at the back for some reason"

Kanzel enters the tent and looks around

<mainstreet> Sure enough, Prel and Prel are there. Prel IV is rearranging knickknacks on some hastily constructed shelves. Prel V is playing with some Elven toy.

<Kanzel> "Hi there Prel. and Prel."

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus glances at Sanni. "Well, I *am* eleventy-bajillion years old, you know. I'm not as fit as I used to be. At least, not on my feet. Heh heh."

<mainstreet> "Hi," they both say, somewhat unified but somewhat off.

Kanzel walks up to Pell IV "Uhm, it turns out we do need your help a bit. Could you get us onto the boat you came here on?"

<mainstreet> "Probably not. They restricted it for investigative purposes."

<Sanni> "Do you know anyone who might be able to?"

<Kanzel> "Hm.. Do you know anyone that could get us onto it? Ambassador Winters, prehaps?"

<mainstreet> "Zach? Nah, he'll just kick you out as soon as he realizes who you are."

<mainstreet> "Let me think here."

<mainstreet> After a minute or two, he sighs. "The only thing I can think of, would be to try to have Melinda get the authorization for you. If you can convince her, that is. Well, for that matter, if you can find her separated from her husband. Probably when he goes to the meeting tomorrow morning."

<Capn_Marcus> "Who's Melinda?"

Kanzel sighs. "I was hoping this investigation wouldn't take that long..."

<mainstreet> "The ambassador's wife."

<Kanzel> "Okay, in the meantime, we can look for the black boat."

<Kanzel> "Thanks for your help Prel."

<Capn_Marcus> "Look for it where? It's a boat, it could have sailed anywhere by now."

<Kanzel> "Well, let's hope it hasn't. Why would a boat just happen to attack someone on their way to a summit unless they were headed here themselves?"

<Kanzel> "It's worth a try at least."

Kanzel waves to Prel and Prel "thanks again!" and heads out of the tent.

<Capn_Marcus> "I just mean, we'd need a starting point."

<Sanni> "I'd guess it suffered some sort of damnage from ramming into the other one. I highly doubt it got very far before needing to be mended"

<Kanzel> "Not only that, but there're eleven boats docked at the marina. If you were a boat, where would you be?"

Kanzel walks off to the dock -again-.

<Capn_Marcus> "Yeah, I guess we should at least take a look at them all."

<Sanni> "It wouldn't be smart to go to the same dock Kanzel"

Kanzel points "They're all in a line along the coast"

Elysia sighs and follows after the group, wearied

<mainstreet> You see all the docks. They're full. None of the boats are both black and small enough to have caused the damage.

Kanzel crosses her arms and looks out at the horizon, expecting a black boat to magically appear. she then turns to her party, "And other ideas?"

<Sanni> "Even more of a reason for the boat to not be *here*. Do you think they're stupid enough to get found so easily?"

<Kanzel> "they probably thought they killed everyone on board."

<Kanzel> "Or that saw the boat, in any case."

<Capn_Marcus> "Hmm. Maybe..."

Kanzel wanders back to the Triangle tent.

<Capn_Marcus> "...maybe they have a secret port around here somewhere."

<Sanni> "So, there's a chance. It's never smart to take a chance on that."

<Capn_Marcus> "They could be hiding."

<Kanzel> ask around*

<Capn_Marcus> "Well, it wouldn't hurt to canvass the tent area (Canvas? Tents? Heh heh!)."

<Capn_Marcus> "But beyond that, I vote we wait until tomorrow and try to do what we can about the boat. It's our only real lead right now."

<Brellius> "I don't like just waiting...but I don't see any other options."

<Sanni> "Waiting might be best, and we'll want to be well rested for tomorrow."

<Kanzel> "I think we should talk to Prel again."

Elysia sighs. "That's your brilliant plan?"

<Capn_Marcus> "Yeah, I just thought of something to ask him."

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus shuffles off to find him.

Kanzel follows.

<Elysia> "Walk around everywhere?"

<Sanni> "Fine but this time can we get all the questions asked before going off half cocked?"

Kanzel looks at Elysia "Come on, it's good exercise. and we're running an investigation. It's only natural that we need to go everywhere looking for clues."

<Elysia> "Sure, and in walking everywhere so disorganisedly, we're missing something, most likely."

<Kanzel> "I didn't know we had more questions to ask him... Next time, speak up if you think there's something we forgot."

<Capn_Marcus> "Hey, if I could remember that I forgot something, then I wouldn't have forgotten it."

<Kanzel> "Sorry, something I forgot."

Sanni follows along "Well getting more information is always better than getting less"

Kanzel walks into Prel's tent again.

<Kanzel> and looks around*

<mainstreet> They're still there. "Yeah, what now?"

<Capn_Marcus> "Uh, yes, pardon me. I was having a senior moment earlier and forgot to mention this."

<mainstreet> "What 'this'?"

<Capn_Marcus> "We were told by your son that the men who attacked you ship wore military uniforms that lacked insignia. Can you think of anyone or any place they might have been able to obtain those uniforms from?"

<mainstreet> "Well, I can't imagine they'd be stupid enough to do this locally. There is a shop in the city, but if they're that dumb... I'm surprised they're not already caught."

<Capn_Marcus> "You'd be surprised. What shop would that be?"

<mainstreet> "I don't recall the name. But it's in the south end of the city. It sells all sorts of costumes and stuff, and I'm pretty sure military -- for various islands -- would be there."

<Capn_Marcus> "Ah. Thanks. We'll probably be back in a few minutes, if the pattern holds true." He shuffles out.

<mainstreet> "Right."

Kanzel follows Marcus out

<Brellius> "I suspect it will."

Brellius tags along

Sanni sighs, muttering under her breath while following, "Impatient people"

Kanzel sighs as well.

Kanzel walks straight north out of the Hexagon camp.

Elysia follows, wondering what time we'll break for food

<Kanzel> "Sorry about dragging us all over nowhere."

<mainstreet> Eagle City appears to be a fairly standard walled city. A pair of large eagle statues are perches just outside the south entrance. Guards are standing to either side of the gate.

<Capn_Marcus> "Eh, I'm used to it. One time I spent half the day wandering around the east wing of the castle because I couldn't remember where I was."

<Elysia> "Getting old there, Marcus?"

<Capn_Marcus> "Nah, I was drunk."

Sanni laughs at Marcus walking up to the gate

Kanzel walks up to the guard. "Hi, can we go in?"

<mainstreet> "Are you a citizen, or are you intending to visit?"

<Kanzel> "Visitor."

<mainstreet> "Alright, so you'll need a visitor's pass. The cost is... 3 silver per person. Pass is good for 3 days."

Kanzel hands over three silver.

Elysia shows off her citizenship papers and saunters inside

<Capn_Marcus> Marcus grumbles, pays the 3 silver, and takes the pass.

Sanni pulls out her paperwork, showing the guard

Kanzel takes a pass, looking at it.

<mainstreet> Kanzel: It says "EAGLE CITY: VISITOR'S PASS: GOOD UNTIL INK FADES: ________ (Your Name Here)"

Brellius produces 3 silver and hands it over

Kanzel scribbles her name in the blank space.

<mainstreet> Passes are handed out to all people that need one, with an appropriate blank space.

Capn_Marcus scribbles down his info, after a few moments of forgetting what his last name is.

Brellius takes a couple minutes to make a fancy signature

<mainstreet> One of the guards opens the gate, and waves you all through.

Kanzel enters and looks around.

<mainstreet> You guys see... a CITY!

<Elysia> "It ain't much, but it's home."

Kanzel looks around for a clothing store. "what did he say it was named?"

<Elysia> "He didn't."

<Kanzel> "Oh right. That'd be why I don't remember."

<Elysia> "However... south end of the city?"

Kanzel shrugs, "Sounds good."

<Elysia> "There's only one choice. Follow me."

Kanzel follows.

<Capn_Marcus> "Yeah, we'll find it soon enough. Plus I wanna do some shopping!"

<Kanzel> "Yeah, I figured. I can hear all that money you've got jingling in your bag."

Elysia lopes off happily enough to the store, pointing out fun stores, as well as a bakery selling bacon buns for two coppers along the way

<mainstreet> ---END SESSION---

Capn_Marcus stares longingly at the buns in front of him. No, not the ones in the bakery.
