Geometric Archipelago:Gangs of Octagon Island/Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen: Grand Theft Hextor II: Elven Chambers
<mainstreet> ---BEGIN SESSION---
Kanzel sneaks up to the dresser and quietly paws around inside it for anything that's not clothes.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You find a small leather pouch.
Kanzel pockets it, and keeps looking
<mainstreet> Nothing more in this particular dresser.
Kanzel sneaks over to the nightstand and quitetly looks/feels raround for anything interesting.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You find some sort of small book... and another, slightly larger. You also find some object you can't make out beyond its highly irregular shape in this darkness.
Kanzel tosses all three in her bag.
Kanzel moves on tho the bathroom and looks around,
<mainstreet> Kanzel: It's a bathroom... just what are you expecting to find?
<Capn_Ascii> (Dirty magazines?)
Kanzel slides into the smallest spot and trying to make as little noise as possible, puts a towel over her mouth, pulls out the wand for detect secret doors and casts it on herself.
<mainstreet> You do notice a door... it's in the floor, right in front of the bed!
Kanzel whispers, still intto the cloth, "I found a secret door under verpad's bed. I got two books, a leather bag, and some item. I'm going to check out the door."
<Capn_Ascii> "Sweet. I mean, uh, keep us appraised of the situation."
<Kanzel> "Will Do."
Kanzel sneaks up to the door and tries to figure out how to open it.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: There is a lock present.
Kanzel quietly works on it.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You work and work and work at it... Nope!
Kanzel keeps trying.
<mainstreet> You silently completely fail at locks... of course, you did manage to seal the lock even further. But you made no noise doing it!
Kanzel wipes the sweat off her forehead and keeps at it.
<mainstreet> Kanzel keeps working at the lock, but doesn't quite get it.
Kanzel keeps trying before she just decides to give up and blast a holde in the door.
<mainstreet> Kanzel works judiciously for a while...
<mainstreet> and then realizes that her noisy banging on the lock has woken the lady... said lady wakes up and looks suspiciously down at Kanzel, peering. Of course, Kanzel is still invisible.
Kanzel sneaks over to a wall and waits.
<mainstreet> The lady simply stares down at the door for a while.
<mainstreet> She sighs, and curls back up next to Verpad.
<mainstreet> A few minutes later, she drifts back to sleep.
Kanzel waits a few more minutes before sneaking into the bathroom and reinvising herself before it wears off. she then looks back into the room for any more movement
<mainstreet> (ie: no movement)
Kanzel slunks back over to the lock and tries once more on the stupid thing.
<mainstreet> Kanzel works on the lock... and *finally* gets it open.
Kanzel sneaks back to the bathroom, and grabbing her trusty towel, mutters "Finally got the lock open. going into the basement-whatever-thing. If you hear screaming, come running."
<Capn_Ascii> "Will do. Well, maybe teleporting, but you know."
Capn_Ascii returns his attention to his medieval PSP.
Kanzel goes back into the room, slowly picks up the door and peers into what lies beyond.
Brellius watches the screen over Ascii's shoulder
<mainstreet> Kanzel: It's very dark. You go in there, you might be eaten by a grue.
Kanzel slips in and quietly drapes a leather cloak over the side, bringing the door down on top of it. Pulling out a magically lit kunai, she looks around.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You don't see much... a few chains, a couple of manacles, and a vicious-looking mace... hmmm, it looks like you've found some sort of torture chamber...
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You also spot a decaying corpse in the corner. Ewwwwww.
Kanzel sneaks over to the corpse and examines it.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You notice it's a man, mid-thirties or so, wearing Yellow clothing. Not much else can be spotted offhand.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: You spot a small piece of paper underneath his clothing.
Kanzel looks him over "Poor bastard." She finds the paper and grabs it, and reads it.
<mainstreet> He seems to have written "Safe... wall..." on one side.
<mainstreet> The other side is a fragment of an identification paper... You can tell his first name was "Kenny", but not much else.
Kanzel looks around at the walls.
<mainstreet> There's a tiny little indentation in a wall. Looks like it could be an opening of some kind.
Kanzel goes over and examines it
<mainstreet> Yup, you got a safe here. Classic combination lock on it.
<mainstreet> You wouldn't have spotted it without a good detect, because the numbers just look like scratches in the wall, and the lock just looks like wall itself.
Kanzel quitely mutters "Oh joy. Just what I need. Another lock. I've got a dead Yellow-ian here, and he had a note directing me to a wall safe. I'm going to check it out.."
Kanzel pulls out the two books, the pouch and the irregular object and examines them in the light.
<mainstreet> One of the books appears to be some sort of record of Verpad's discipline and reward activities for his Clerics.
<Capn_Ascii> "Dead? Who did you kill, Kanzel?"
<mainstreet> The other book appears to be a diary, written in a lady's hand. Hmmm... wow, this is some fascinating stuff... your heart skips a beat or two as you read it... she's definitely a vivid writer, describing her life as both a low-level cleric of Hextor and personal slave of Verpad...
<mainstreet> You open the pouch, and... you find a register. You know, those things they used to have to keep track of bank dealings. ;)
<mainstreet> You also find a small supply of gold. Specifically, 200 gold.
<mainstreet> The irregular object... you look at it, and unless it's someone being a really bad sculptor, you still haven't the faintest idea what it is.
<Kanzel> "No one. Tonight, anyway. I assume Verpad did dit. Or his mate. I don't know how long ago."
Kanzel sniffs around the body.
<mainstreet> Kanzel: Ewww. Smells like he died about 2-3 days ago.
<Kanzel> "Two or three days., I'd guess."
Kanzel lists off her spoils. "I've got a buisness ledger of some kind, a diary, a reputation ledger, gold, and asome figurine."
Kanzel stows it all into her bag and re-examines the lock,
<mainstreet> It's still locked.
<Capn_Ascii> "Ledgers? Hmm..." Ascii grins as an evil idea enters his head. "What's the diary about? And what kind of figurine?"
<mainstreet> Kanzel: And your randomly spinning the dial around doesn't really help you.
Kanzel triees to open the lock again. "Diary is by the mate. doesn't say her name that I could see. and I don't know what the figurine is unless it was Verpad's art as a kid."
<Capn_Ascii> "Mate? Verpad has a girlfriend?"
<mainstreet> Kanzel: Uh... I didn't mention the name because I forgot, but... it is on the inside cover... it's Maruth.
<mainstreet> You try once more, Kanzel, and get nowhere.
<mainstreet> However... third time's the charm, and the lock clicks open!
Kanzel keeps at it. "Oh. Her name was Maruth."
Kanzel moves that line up one.
Kanzel peers inside
<mainstreet> Kanzel: Yup. You found... the MOTHERLODE. Well, kinda. You look at the stacks of money, just sitting there. There's a lot of it. Especially since it looks like most of it is supposed to be platinum, though you'd have to examine them to be sure.
Kanzel checks on the trapdoor above her for movement
<mainstreet> You hear nothing, Kanzel.
Kanzel digs a sack out of her bag and starts slowly moving the money into the bag. "I found stacks and stacks of what looks like platinum here."
<mainstreet> As you start to shovel the money in, you notice that it does, in fact, say "PP" on it.
<Capn_Ascii> "...stacks? Er, how many stacks?"
<Kanzel> "Lots? I didn't even know coins tcould be stacked. but here they are."
<mainstreet> ...Um, hello? Geometric Archipelago? It's all paper...
<Kanzel> "Oh. It's magically paper all of a sudden."
<mainstreet> No legitimate mining out here on these islands. Can't waste metal on currency. ;)
Kanzel continues stealing
<mainstreet> Eventually, Kanzel shovels all the paper into her bag.
Kanzel shoves it into her backpack
<mainstreet> Kanzel: So, you've cleaned house. Now what?
Kanzel closes the safe how it was. she climbs up the ladder, and restows the kunai, letting her eyes adjust to the darkness.
Kanzel then grabs the cloak and, peeks out of the hole for any movement that she can see.
<Capn_Ascii> Ascii whispers to her from afar. "You should come back now. I think we can work with what you've got."
<mainstreet> Kanzel: No movement is spotted. Looks like the unholy couple are still snoozing.
Kanzel slips out, being careful to slowly lower the door behind her.
Kanzel grabs a pen she saw earlier before slowly heading for the wall that's shared by the hallway and Jim's room. She turns ethereal and runs for the hallway, poking her head into Jim's room as she stands in the hallway, she quickly looks around.
<mainstreet> You don't see much of importance in Jim's room. He finally went back to bed... but you can't really see anything else.
Kanzel pops back into the hallway.
Kanzel looks around
<mainstreet> It's the hallway! It's deserted, as it was before.
Kanzel heads over to her bedroll, pulling out the clothes she shoverd there, she pulls out the diary, rips out a blank page and writes "We have your cleric. If you want her returned, you will do as you're told. You will not report any disappearances, and you will go about buisness as usual. Secondly, you should expect ransom instructions, within a few days. Expect us." Before she rips all unimportant edges, and makes the bedroll looked ransacked.
<Kanzel> rips all edges of her written words*
Kanzel heads to the outer door and turns ethereal next to it, hauling down the hallway before her time is up.
<mainstreet> Kanzel finds herself in the outer hallway.
Kanzel slows to a walk as her etheral-ness fades.
Kanzel turns her hair blue this time, pulling off the wig, while changing her clothes to another generic cleric's uniform as she turns visible.
<Kanzel> "Guys, meet me by Ascii's room"
Kanzel wanders off in that direction
<Capn_Ascii> "Alright. We'll be there shortly."
<Capn_Ascii> Ascii saves his game and steps out, stretching. "Gah! Feels like I've been in there for weeks." He heads off toward his room, assuming Brellius is following him.
Brellius tags along, also stretching. "Yeah, I almost forgot how to walk."
<mainstreet> You all meet without incident outside Ascii's room.
Kanzel goes in silently, unrolls a bedroll, and falls asleep into it, her duisguise fizzling and fading as she does so.
<Capn_Ascii> Ascii blinks. "Hey, aren't you going to tell us what happened?" Realizing that Kanzel doesn't seem inclined to talk about it at 4am, he shrugs, de-armors and climbs into bed to discuss it tomorrow.
<Brellius> "I'm tempted to wish for more of a work-out tomorrow, but knowing how things usually go for us..." Brellius shrugs and gets out his own bedroll and prepares for sleep
<mainstreet> Sleep... ah, sleep, wonderful sleep... so peaceful... so... peeeacefullll
