Chapter Fifteen: Bravely Ran Away

<mainstreet> ---BEGIN SESSION---

Kanzel cancels her attack midjump, turns ethereal and sprints past the Clerics and into the hallway where she runs around for a couple of seconds looking for her partners.

<mainstreet> Kanzel: Your partners are right there, about 15 feet down the hall.

Kanzel waits for the etherealness to wear off before whispering to the two "There are three in the hall. Come on, let's go."

Kanzel turns and runs down the hall.

Brellius hands over an elixir of sneaking to the loud, armored one and ducks around whichever turn in the hall is closer

<Capn_Ascii> "Huh? Oh, uh, thanks..." He pops the cork and quickly chugs it as he dashes off after the others, moving as fast as he can in his mail.

<mainstreet> The door opens, and Jim and Mr. Gorz go charging out the door, looking around.

<mainstreet> "I don't see anyone," Steven Gorz reports. "Let's keep looking."

<mainstreet> They start moving in the direction you all went down.

<mainstreet> However, it fast becomes evident that the pair will not catch up to the Party... but Ascii isn't gaining any ground either. He'll probably want to do something quickly before they get suspicious of him and try a long range attack to slow him up.

<Capn_Ascii> Ascii whispers to the others. "Dammit, Kanzel, what did you do?"

<Capn_Ascii> Ascii looks for someplace nearby to hide himself.

<mainstreet> Ascii: You spot an open door to what looks like a janitor's closet.

<mainstreet> Ascii: You also notice the corridor forks here.

<Capn_Ascii> Ascii quickly checks to see which corridor is the emptiest, then dashes off down that one while winding up for a spell.

<mainstreet> About a third of a minute later, the two clerics reach the fork. "Ah, crap..." Mr. Gorz mutters. "I can't be everywhere... Jim, they didn't get anything. Why don't we just head back? ...especially because this could well have been a diversion. Or something."

<mainstreet> "Yeah, alright. We're fine..." Jim mutters, and they start to walk the other direction.

<Capn_Ascii> Ascii is still running. "Are they gone?"

<Kanzel> "Yeah, looks like it."

<Capn_Ascii> "Can we stop now?"

Kanzel slows. "I suppose. So what now?"

<Brellius> "We've had more than a few close calls here. Whatever we do, it should be somewhere else for now."

Capn_Ascii gasps for breath. "I repeat - what did you *do*, Kanzel?"

<Kanzel> I disagree. We haven't been killed yet."

<Kanzel> "I didn't do anything -major- I tripped a trap accidently."

<Capn_Ascii> Apparantly a big one. Dammit. Well, snooping is out - they've nearly caught you twice. They're going to be watching their stuff with invis-seers 24/7 now."

Kanzel sighs.

<Kanzel> "Well, were asked to do this by Madame Rose. What other options do you know of?"

<Capn_Ascii> "I don't know..."

<Capn_Ascii> "Do you think you could try something that doesn't involve depending on being invisible?"

<Kanzel> "Or disguised? I can't think of anything."

<Capn_Ascii> "...hey, actually, a disguise might work." He frowns. "*Might*. They're still onto us, it's not going to be easy pulling anything over on them now."

<Kanzel> "I'm starting to think it'd be easier to just catch them in the act."

<Capn_Ascii> "How so?"

<Kanzel> "Well, I mean, we're here to erradicate the clerics harming patients somehow. If we watch them doing it, we can say with proof who's doing it or not. And, if enough of them go missing, the rest will realize the threat and maybe stop doing it."

<Brellius> "We may as well start with the ones on the list."

<Kanzel> "We already tried the top of the list... who did you have in mind mister idetic memory?"

<Brellius> "Maybe we could try again from the bottom."

Kanzel pulls out the scroll she pilfered from the shrine. "Look this over, Brellius. Do you see anything that might help?"

Brellius reads the scroll, and memorizes it just in case

Kanzel pulls out the seven spell scrolls and hands them to Ascii "Think you could figure out what these spells are?"

<mainstreet> Brellius: The scroll contains various patrol routes and squadrons people are attached to... it does mention a few names which do match the list... it seems there are 12 people currently assigned on this scroll... assigned in pairs to 6 different squadrons... in a specific rotation... and conspicuously, Mr. Borketh's name is not on this scroll at all... until you get to the very bottom, where he's signed it.

<mainstreet> Ascii: As you go through the scrolls, you recognize the first three immediately. Command (Greater), Searing Light, and Scrying (Greater).

<Capn_Ascii> "Totally keeping these..."

<mainstreet> The fourth, however... you blink at it a few times... it looks kinda like a spell... but it doesn't actually read like one... you can't make heads or tails of it.

<mainstreet> The last three, also fall easily to your amazing eyes. Create Water, Dimensional Anchor, and Zone of Truth.

<Capn_Ascii> "Keeper, keeper, give to mother for Mother's Day...wait, what the hell is this?"

Capn_Ascii goes cross-eyed at the strange scroll.

<Capn_Ascii> "I...have no freakin' idea what this is. I'm not even sure it's a spell."

<Capn_Ascii> He turns the scroll on its side. "This is beyond my ken. We need to find an expert. What about you, Brell? Anything useful?"

<Brellius> "Patrol routes and assignments...and Borketh signed this one."

Kanzel hands Ascii the ring "Could you check this too?"

<mainstreet> Ascii: It looks like it's designed to go on a finger.

<Capn_Ascii> "...huh."

Kanzel takes the ring back and hands him the box. "And this?"

<mainstreet> Ascii: Unlike your friend, you find the 'catch' to open the box after some difficulty. You open it, and stare. Inside is a tiny jeweled scarab. However, you get a distinctly uneasy feeling from looking at it. You don't like it much. You quickly close the box again.

<Capn_Ascii> "...eeeew."

<Capn_Ascii> "Creepy. I dunno *why*, but...creepy."

<Kanzel> "You can't tell what it is?"

<Capn_Ascii> "No. Just that I get the feeling we'd better not mess with it without an expert opinion."

<Kanzel> "So where does that leave us?"

<Capn_Ascii> "We need to find someone with enough spell power or book learning to ID these things. Especially the scarab - it worries me." He securely clasps the box shut.

<Capn_Ascii> "More importantly, someone who can be trusted."

<mainstreet> Ascii: As it turns out, you've heard of a guy who just might know this stuff. He's an infamous Yellow Union magical fence known by many as "The Sphere", which of course has nothing whatsoever to do with his body shape.

<Capn_Ascii> "And I think I know just the guy..."

<Kanzel> "Great. Lead the way."

<Capn_Ascii> Ascii heads off to meet...The Sphere.

Kanzel follows

Brellius tags along
